One day, Manuel burns himself with boiling hot water while bathing and Jack is blamed for the incident. It's reason enough for social services to put him in a home where he is dreadfully homesick. He soon gets into trouble and bolts, heading for home. He arrives back, only to find his mother is once again absent. Jack and Manuel roam the city in search of her. They sleep in parks and in an underground car park, run away from the police and encounter adults, some of whom help and others who are indifferent. Edward Berger and co-writer Nele Mueller-Stöfen’s portrait of two children’s search for their mother is at once laconic and sensitive, poetic and full of understanding for the boys’ pain and loneliness. At the same time the film paints a panoramic image of Berlin: its boulevards and supermarkets, its nightclubs, bars and parks, but also the dreary outskirts far away from the pulsating centres. Peripetije (Damjan Zorc), 30. januar 2017 ― Morje celi rane, jezero jih odpre. eveda, vsak od nas bi lahko rekel, da pozna koga, ki je že kdaj, ležerno in nastopaško, ob tretji pijači in par odsotno kimajočih poslušalcih, ali pa bolj trezno in s tem za kanec bolj odločno, rekel, da bo nekoč napisal veliko kriminalko. Tisto pravo. Tisto prebojno v našem podhranjenem okolju. V maniri svetovnih uspešnic, ki jih nato gledamo še prenesene na velika platna. Seveda, vsak od nas ima v sebi tisto zgodbo z genialnimi zapleti – več, ne samo enim –, napetimi vrhunci in presenetljivimi zaključki. Seveda. »Potem se boš pa zbudil,« bi lahko rekel eden od likov romana Jezero, če ne kar Taras Birsa, višji inšpektor v tem odličnem romanu Tadeja Goloba, ki se je zadeve z vseh kotov lotil premišljeno in domišljeno. Pogumno, a s tem nič kaj preveč naluknjano, je z eno veliko potezo zajel vse dobre prvine uspešnih in pri nas tako priljubljenih svetovnih (zlasti skandinavskih) sester ter na zajetnih petstotih straneh, brez naplavljenega balasta, ki ruši v tem žanru tako pomemben ritem, v naše okolje učinkovito in navidezno lahkotno prenesel vso raznobarvno sivino kriminalke. V naveličanem slogu in splošnem razočaranju zaradi pomanjkanja dobrega domačega žanra bi v najboljšem primeru pričakoval polizdelek, dobili pa smo zgodbo, ki bo v najslabšem primeru ostala v ednini. Taras Birsa, že omenjeni višji inšpektor, se po novoletni zabavi na bohinjskem koncu z ženo vrača domov v Ljubljano. Sneži. Vidljivost je slaba. Kolesa avtomobila se za silo oprijemajo belega cestišča, ko povsem trezni inšpektor v daljavi zagleda luči. Sprva pomisli, da je novoletna jelka, toda ko se približata, vidi, da jima pot zaustavlja policijsko vozilo. Vrata so odprta, policistov pa nikjer. Taras se po sledi svežih stopinj odpravi do jezera, kjer se kot v hitri posnetek ujeti kresnički premikata soja policistovih baterijskih svetilk.
